About Us

Lakes Community Church is a community of people who love God and seek to follow Jesus Christ with the whole of their lives.  It's more than a building people come to on Sunday.  It's a group of people who are committed to living life together.  Lakes Community Church is a place where people from all different places feel at home.  There are specific ministries for every age group, ministries for men and for women, ministries for people who feel called to go throughout the world, and people who are called to stay and live intentionally here in Northern British Columbia.

What We Believe

We believe that Christianity is first and foremost about relationships rather than rules. It is about the most important relationship of all - our relationship with God. We were created to know God and until we know Him personally, there will be something missing in our lives.

Jesus

Jesus Christ makes relationship with God possible. The Bible, which we accept as God's word, teaches that Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God. Some people think He was just a good religious teacher, but the Bible teaches that He was sent by God to die for our sins on the cross. The Christian faith is rooted and grounded on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for all of us.

Relationship

At Lakes Community Church, our relationships with each other are also important and therefore church is a place for you to connect and get to know other people. Come, bring a friend and experience Christian community as we worship God in a blended worship country style and learn from the Bible how God wants us to live and enjoy life.

Our overriding vision is to give everyone in Prince George and the Lakes area an opportunity to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and by following Him, compassionately impact our world.

Our Purpose

At Lakes Community Church our Mission is to:

Bring people to Jesus Christ through evangelism.

Involve people in the Body of Christ through fellowship.

Build people to maturity through sound teaching.

Liberate people to serve through ministry opportunities and training.

Exalt God through worship.

Village Missions

Lakes Community Church is affiliated with Village Missions of Canada (link).  Village Missions exists to glorify Jesus Christ by developing spiritually vital churches in rural North America.  North America is rapidly becoming the most ignored mission field in the world.

From small villages in the northeast to small farm towns scattered across the central plains to isolated logging communities out west, North America is the only continent where Christianity is not growing.

Village Missions' earliest mandate was to,

"Preach the Word and Love the People."

And that's what we still do every day ... it is how we minister to people.

People need a place to worship and a pastor they can call their own ... even when they don't attend regularly. A place they can find spiritual help they can trust when hard times come.

Even the smallest church building reminds folks that God is still represented in their midst. A local pastor and church members can provide an authentic voice of hope and love for those without Christ.  Lakes Community Church seeks to be that authentic voice of hope.

History

In the mid 1970’s a group of people meeting began meeting in homes in the Ness Lake, Reid Lake and Nukko Lake area to study God’s Word.  Slowly the group grew to the point where it was suggested that a Sunday School class begin.  The Ness Lake Bible Camp was approached and in the fall of 1975 the first Sunday school class was held at the Bible Camp.  In 1977 the people began to seriously talk about looking for some bigger facilities for Sunday morning instead of meeting in trailers and houses and possibly beginning a church.  After a lot of prayer, church services began in the Nukko Lake Hall.  Shortly the Lakes Community Church was formed and property was bought and in 1978 the first Village Missionaries, Murray and Debbie Graham arrived.  The church building was built in the next few years and then the parsonage about 10 years later.  From those first Bible studies in people’s homes grew a church to where hundreds of people’s lives have been impacted by the love of Jesus Christ.  This journey continues through the lives of the people that call Lakes Community Church home. We invite you to be a part of God's story...

Statement of Faith

A. WE BELIEVE the Scripture, both old and new testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His Will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

B. WE BELIEVE in ONE GOD, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-equal.

C. WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further He rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven, where at the right hand of the Majesty on High He is now our High Priest and Advocate.

D. WE BELIEVE that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ and during this age to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for Godly living.

E. WE BELIEVE that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only thru regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

F. WE BELIEVE that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit upon conversion and thus become the children of God.

G. WE BELIEVE that water baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by the church during the present age. They are however, not to be regarded as means of salvation.

H. WE BELIEVE that the true church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ, of which He is the head.

I. WE BELIEVE that only those who are thus members of the true church shall be eligible for membership in the local church.

J. WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the church, and that every local church has the right under Christ to decide and govern its own affairs.

K. WE BELIEVE in the personal and premillennial and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this "BLESSED HOPE" has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

L. WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to the everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever to judgement and everlasting conscious punishment.

M. WE BELIEVE that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is the Love of the Lord Jesus Christ, and without that love we do not have the right to call ourselves Christians and as an interdenominational church any doctrinal or denominational differences leading to dissension should have no part in our lives, or in our Society.
